What DiDi is
DiDi is a ride-hailing platform run by DiDi Global. It started in Beijing in 2012 and became the largest ride app in China. In 2018 it bought the Brazilian app 99 and launched in Mexico and Australia, then expanded across Latin America.
Outside China the app works the same way in every market: you set a pickup point and a destination, see an estimated price before you confirm, and pay by card or, in most Latin American countries, in cash. What changes between countries is the list of services, the payment options, the rules for drivers and the documents they need.
Services you will see in the app
- DiDi Express: the standard ride in a private car. It is the default option almost everywhere.
- DiDi Taxi: a licensed taxi booked through the app, where local rules allow it.
- DiDi Moto: a ride on the back of a motorcycle, available in several Latin American cities.
- Pon Tu Precio: you suggest a fare and drivers can accept it.
- DiDi Food and DiDi Entrega: food delivery and parcel delivery, in selected countries.
- DiDi Card, DiDi Préstamos and 99Pay: financial products offered in Mexico and Brazil.
Each country page lists only the services that the official DiDi site shows for that market.
