Delivering parcels as a DiDi driver
DiDi Delivery requests come through the DiDi Driver app alongside rides, marked with a Delivery badge. You need to be an approved DiDi driver, and the service started as an opt-in trial.
Who can deliver
DiDi Delivery is carried out by DiDi driver-partners in their own cars, through the same DiDi Driver app used for rides. You first need to be registered and approved as a driver in your state (requirements). DiDi's driver page lists Delivery vehicle rules per state, with cars no more than 10 years old (vehicle requirements).
DiDi launched Delivery as a trial limited to selected opt-in drivers and says it plans to extend it across the country. Insurance for delivery trips is your responsibility; check your policy covers it.
The six steps
- Get requests. Go online as usual. You keep receiving rideshare requests, and delivery ones carry a Delivery badge.
- Pick up and verify. Meet the sender at their door or the in-store kiosk, identify yourself and collect the items. Check the app for extra instructions. In stores, park in designated spots, remove your face mask for verification and follow staff directions in an emergency.
- Load carefully. Secure items inside the car so they are not damaged or thrown around.
- Arrive and notify. At the drop-off, tap Drop off Delivery to let the recipient know you are there.
- Hand over. Deliver to the recipient at the address. Age-restricted items have extra rules (below).
- Get paid in the app. Delivery fares are processed through the app at the end of the trip, like rides, and paid in your weekly earnings (earnings).
Alcohol, tobacco and age-restricted items
- The recipient must collect in person; never leave these items unattended.
- Ask for ID, check they are over 18 and that the ID matches the person.
- For alcohol, check the recipient is not drunk.
- Confirm the age check in the app, then complete the order.
If the recipient is underage, has no ID or is drunk, do not hand over the items. Significant fines apply for supplying alcohol or tobacco to minors.
Returning an undelivered order
- Load the whole order for return, including non-restricted items.
- Tap the age verification banner and choose Contact Store.
- Follow the SMS instructions sent to your DiDi mobile number.
- If told to return to the store, go offline and return the items straight away.
- The return trip is paid in your next weekly payment cycle.
For undelivered in-store items, tap the menu icon, use the phone icon above Customer Support to call the store, then tap Complete order. Any required return trip is paid in the next cycle.
Size limits and prohibited goods
DiDi suggests up to 6 items, 20 kg per item and 60 x 60 x 60 cm per item. You can cancel if an item is too heavy, over the guideline or prohibited (anything illegal, hazardous or harmful, including weapons and drugs). Inspect parcels from the outside for damage without opening them; if you suspect prohibited goods, ask the sender to show the contents, and cancel if you are not comfortable. Call the sender after accepting to confirm contents, weight and size.
When the recipient cannot be found
- Wait 3 minutes at the drop-off, then contact the sender, who can ask you to leave it there or add the pickup as a second stop to return it (the fee is recalculated).
- If the sender cannot be reached either, leave the parcel in a safe place nearby and message the sender in the app with where you left it.
You cannot contact recipients directly through the app; communicate with the sender by in-app call or message, as with Express.
Why it is worth it
Delivery orders count towards DiDi Advance levels (rewards), and return-to-sender trips are paid. To pause deliveries, switch them off in Trip Settings at any time.
For the sender's side of the service, see DiDi Delivery.
