DiDi driver earnings in Australia
DiDi drivers keep the trip fare minus DiDi's Services Fee and applicable taxes and fees. Earnings for Monday to Sunday are paid into your bank account the following Monday.
How your earnings are made up
Each trip fare is built from a Base Fare, a Distance Fare (which varies by city and can change after a threshold distance) and a Time Fare for the trip duration, plus GST. In Brisbane and Geelong a Short Distance Fee applies to trips under 7 km. Riders may also pay tolls, the State Government Transport Levy, waiting fees and cancellation fees.
From your weekly total DiDi deducts its Services Fee, relevant taxes and any applicable fees. Every trip's breakdown is in Trip History, Fare Details.
The Services Fee
DiDi promotes "industry-leading low Services Fees" so a bigger share of the fare stays with drivers. Rates are set in the DiDi Fee Schedule published in DiDi's Legal section. Two points DiDi states publicly:
- On DiDi Travel trips where you make an offer, the Services Fee is 10% (negotiate).
- DiDi Advance gives committed drivers a lower Services Fee in participating cities (rewards).
Weekly payouts
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Earnings week | Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59 |
| Paid | The following Monday, usually available the same day |
| Public holiday Monday | Paid Tuesday |
| Where | The bank account in your driver app |
To add or change bank details: tap $ at the top right of the home screen, then Balance, Bank Account Information (or Add Bank Card if none is set), and submit.
If a payment does not arrive and it is not a public holiday, check the bank details, then ask your bank whether the account is normal (not closed or frozen). DiDi pays again once details are fixed.
DiDi can withhold payment if it detects dishonest behaviour, such as abusing offers or holding duplicate accounts.
Where to see what you earned
Tap $ at the top right of the DiDi Driver home screen for daily and weekly earnings, then Balance, My Trips or Referral Rewards for detail. For tax records see driver tax.
Extra money that goes to you
- Cancellation fees: when a rider cancels after you have waited at pickup beyond the set time, the fee goes 100% to you. Each city has its own rules (Account, Settings, Legal in the app). Missing one? Profile picture, Service Centre, Fare Related, Contact Us, Email Customer Support.
- Waiting fee: riders pay $0.55 per minute after 5 minutes at pickup.
- Tolls: added automatically to the fare. If one is missing, send support the trip, the toll name and amount; approved tolls are added to the next payment cycle under "Other".
- Cleaning fee: if a rider's mess stops you working, claim with photos from several angles and a professional cleaning receipt (with a valid ABN) within 7 days. Maximums: Level 1 $20, Level 2 $21 to $40, Level 3 $41 to $80, Level 4 $81 to $150. The full amount goes to you.
- Delivery returns: you are paid for both the delivery and any return-to-sender trip (delivery driver).
Dynamic Pricing and your earnings
At busy times a multiplier is applied to the Base, Time, Waiting and Distance Fares. It does not apply to the Airport Fee, State Government Transport Levy, CTP fee, Booking Fee, GST or tolls, which is why those lines look unchanged. Check the multiplier before accepting (Request, Dynamic Pricing) and after the trip (My Trips, Dynamic Pricing).
Ways to earn more
- Drive at high-demand times (weekends, peak hours, events) and follow the red heat map; darker red means more demand.
- Use Back-to-Back trips to get your next request before finishing the current one.
- Watch Notifications and the earnings page's Trip List for rewards. Rewards often require a high Acceptance Rate, Completion Rate and Star Rating.
- Refer new drivers and riders with your code (referral).
Costs to remember
Your earnings are business income. You pay your own fuel, maintenance, insurance and registration, and GST included in fares has to be reported to the ATO (driver tax). DiDi Advance discounts on fuel, tyres and servicing can cut some of those costs.
