DiDi Negotiate: choosing a driver's fare offer
With DiDi's Negotiate option, drivers offer a fare on your DiDi Travel request, starting from a base fare set by the app. You pick the offer you like and that price is final.
What Negotiate is
DiDi Australia lists Negotiate as one of its ride options. It is a feature of DiDi Travel, the service DiDi pitches as "long distance for less". Instead of the app fixing one price, drivers make offers on your request and you decide which one to take.
DiDi describes this as a trial running in certain cities, available 24/7. Where your city is not part of the trial, you will simply not see the option. Compare it with the other ride types in ride types.
How it works for riders
- Enter your pickup and destination and choose DiDi Travel where the app offers it.
- The app sets a Base Fare for the trip. Nearby drivers see your request and offer a fare at, above or below that base.
- You see the offers and choose. DiDi says riders can weigh the price, the driver's estimated arrival time, their Star Rating and the vehicle type.
- Once you accept an offer, the trip runs like any other DiDi ride, with the same safety tools (safety).
The agreed price is final
The fare you accept before the trip is the fare you pay. DiDi states it is not adjusted later, even if traffic or other delays make the trip longer. That is the main difference from a standard fare, which adds time and distance charges as you go (fares).
Why the base fare can look low
The Base Fare is only a starting point supplied by DiDi. Drivers decide whether to offer more or less, so the offers you receive can sit above or below the base.
Cancellation
The same cancellation policy covers DiDi Travel as other services, with rules set per city. Cancel late and a fee may apply. Details in cancellation fees.
What it means for drivers
For drivers, Travel requests arrive like Express requests and are also listed in the Trip Centre of the DiDi Driver app. A driver can only have one offer pending at a time, ignoring a Travel request does not hurt the Acceptance Rate, and DiDi charges a 10% Services Fee on these trips. Losing a bid does not affect the driver's account. More in driver earnings and the driver app.
When to use it
DiDi Travel is promoted for long-distance trips, and DiDi introduced the offer feature to help riders and drivers match more often. A fixed price agreed up front is useful when you want to know the total before a long ride. For any trip, compare the offers with the Express fare estimate before choosing.
