Using the DiDi Driver app in Australia

DiDi Driver is the app drivers use to sign up, go online, accept trips and see earnings. It also enforces DiDi's rating rules and fatigue limits, such as 8 hours off after 13 online.

Getting the app

Search for DiDi Driver in the App Store or Google Play, install it and register (sign-up). Riders use a different app, DiDi Rider.

Trip modes

  • Point-to-Point: enter a destination and you only get requests heading that way. You can set it 3 times a day, which is handy for the drive home.
  • Back-to-Back: receive the next request while finishing the current trip. Declining a Back-to-Back request does not hurt your Acceptance Rate, but cancelling one hurts your Completion Rate and pauses Back-to-Back until your next trip. You can switch it off on the Trip Details page.
  • Delivery requests: marked with a Delivery badge; switch them off in Trip Settings (delivery driver).
  • DiDi Travel offers: browse and bid in the Trip Centre where the trial runs (negotiate).
  • High demand map: darker red areas show more demand.

Acceptance Rate, Completion Rate and Star Rating

Acceptance Rate (AR) is worked out daily and drops if you let a request time out or skip or decline it. A rider cancelling within the request window does not count. Declining or ignoring too many requests in a day can bring a temporary suspension, so go offline when you do not want trips.

Completion Rate (CR) can drop when a rider cancels because you arrived late, did not move towards them, or started the trip before pickup. DiDi sets a minimum CR per city. Your Weekly Completion Rate is checked every Monday: below the minimum you get a reminder and may be suspended; four weeks in a row means deactivation.

Star Rating: riders rate you 1 to 5. DiDi's rider survey found people value a friendly greeting, help with luggage, asking about the preferred route, a clean car and arriving on time.

Behaviour that can lead to suspension includes swiping Complete instead of Cancel, cancelling or declining many trips, starting or completing trips without the rider, not ending the trip after drop-off and unnecessary detours.

Fatigue limits

Rule Detail
Online clock Runs from START until you go offline, including trips, driving to pickup and waiting
Reminders At 7 hours (take a 30-minute rest) and at 12 hours (one hour left)
13-hour limit After 13 cumulative online hours the app takes you offline for 8 consecutive hours
Reset Only 8 consecutive hours offline resets the clock
NSW only 80 online hours within 7 days requires a 24-hour break

A red banner in the app shows when you can go back online.

Phone use while driving

DiDi reminds drivers to follow road rules: fully licensed drivers can generally only take calls with the phone in a commercially made fixed cradle or hands-free (Bluetooth or voice). Interact with the app only when it is legal and safe.

Contacting riders

After accepting, tap the phone icon to call or the message icon to chat. Numbers are anonymised. Riders can reach you through the app's self-help function for 7 days after a trip, for example about lost items.

Safety tools for drivers

Facial verification at login, Preview Rider (rating and trip frequency), Preview Destination, TripCheck, SOS to emergency services, Share Trip with Trusted Contacts, Unmatch rider, TripChoice for female drivers, Audio Recording in some states and territories, and the 24/7 Incident Response Team. Help routes are in driver support.

Questions and answers

Where do I download the DiDi Driver app?

Search for DiDi Driver in the App Store or Google Play, install it, then open it and register with your details.

Why did the DiDi Driver app take me offline?

After 13 cumulative hours online, DiDi's fatigue feature takes you offline for 8 consecutive hours. In NSW you also need a 24-hour break after 80 online hours within 7 days.

What counts as online time on DiDi?

Everything from tapping START until you go offline: time on trips, driving to pickups and waiting for requests. Going offline briefly does not reset the clock; only 8 consecutive hours offline does.

What happens if my Completion Rate is too low?

Your Weekly Completion Rate is checked every Monday. Below your city's minimum you get a reminder and may be suspended temporarily; four weeks in a row below it leads to deactivation.

Can I filter for female riders only?

Female drivers can use TripChoice to be matched only with female riders.
