How to sign up as a DiDi driver in Australia

Sign up in the DiDi Driver app with your phone number and email, add your details and GST-registered ABN, then upload your state's documents. DiDi reviews them in about 3 to 5 business days.

Before you start

Get these ready so the application goes through first time:

  1. ABN registered for GST. Having an ABN does not register you for GST automatically; do both. See driver tax.
  2. State accreditation or authority: VIC Driver Accreditation, QLD BHTX Driver Authority and BHSL, WA PTD-A and PTV-A, SA Driver and Operator Accreditation, or for NSW a T condition, a National Police Check under 3 months old and your driving history. Full list in requirements by state.
  3. Vehicle papers: registration, inspection report, CTP and insurance naming you as a driver (vehicle requirements).
  4. ID: your licence plus a second ID such as a passport, ImmiCard or birth or citizenship certificate.
  5. Profile photo: clear, JPG, JPEG or PNG, at least 200 x 200 pixels.

Sign-up steps

  1. In the App Store or Google Play, search for DiDi Driver, then download and install it.
  2. Open the app and sign up with your phone number and email address.
  3. Enter your basic details and your ABN, and confirm you are GST-registered.
  4. Choose your state and upload each required document. Photograph them flat and in good light so every detail is readable.
  5. Submit and wait for review.
  6. When approved, DiDi activates the account and you can log in and tap START to go online.

How long approval takes

DiDi's city pages allow up to 3 business days; its help centre says 3 to 5 business days. Wait for that period before contacting support about the application.

If your application is rejected

DiDi sends an SMS with the reason. In the app you can see the declined document and upload a new one. Common reasons:

Problem Fix
Expired or invalid document Upload the current version
Missing document Check your state's list again
Details do not match across documents Make names, ABN and plate consistent
Incomplete document Upload every page, such as the full inspection report
Blurry photo Retake in good light, no glare

Providing false documents breaches DiDi's Anti Fraud Policy.

After approval

  • A Welcome Kit with DiDi vehicle stickers and referral cards printed with your referral code is posted to the address you gave. Allow 3 to 7 business days.
  • Display the stickers the way your state requires (signage table).
  • Add your bank account so weekly earnings can be paid (earnings).
  • Learn the app basics, including Acceptance Rate, Completion Rate and fatigue limits (driver app).

Updating documents later

Tap the driver icon at the top left of the DiDi Driver app, then Documents, to upload renewals such as a new inspection report or insurance certificate. Keep them current, because your state's rules (for example the 12-monthly inspection) apply for as long as you drive.

Getting help with registration

Sign-up questions can go through the Service Centre in the app or in person at DiDi Driver Hubs and driver meet-ups (driver support).

Questions and answers

How long does DiDi driver approval take?

DiDi's city pages say to allow up to 3 business days, and its help centre says 3 to 5 business days. DiDi asks applicants not to chase their application until that time has passed.

Why was my DiDi driver registration unsuccessful?

Usually because a document was invalid, expired, missing, inconsistent, incomplete or too blurry to read. DiDi sends the reason by SMS, and you can view the declined item and upload a valid one.

Where do I upload or update my DiDi driver documents?

In the DiDi Driver app, tap the driver icon at the top left, then Documents. The list you see depends on the state you register in.

Is there a DiDi driver sign-up bonus?

DiDi runs driver offers from time to time under its General Terms and Conditions for Driver Offers. Any current new-driver offer is shown in the app's notifications; amounts are not fixed.
