DiDi driver requirements in NSW
DiDi in NSW needs a licence held 12 months with a T condition, a recent National Police Check, a Service NSW driving record and an NSW-registered, pink-slipped car.
Who sets the rules in NSW
Of the five state lists DiDi publishes, NSW is the only one that asks for no separate accreditation or authority certificate. Instead, the state's point-to-point rules work through your licence: Transport for NSW adds a T condition (Passenger Transport Licence Condition) to it, and DiDi checks your criminal and driving record itself. The NSW Point to Point Commission sets signage standards, and Service NSW issues the driving record and registers vehicles.
On top of that, DiDi's baseline applies: a smartphone with a mobile number and email, the right to work in Australia, an ABN registered for GST (driver tax) and being named as an insured driver. The national picture is on driver requirements.
Documents DiDi asks for in NSW
| Document | What DiDi checks |
|---|---|
| Profile photo | Clear JPG, JPEG or PNG, at least 200 x 200 pixels |
| NSW or Australian licence | Unrestricted, held more than 12 months in the past 4 years, with the T condition |
| Proof of ID | Passport, ImmiCard, Australian or NZ birth certificate, or citizenship certificate |
| National Police Check | ACIC-accredited provider, issued within the last 3 months, no serious disqualifying offences |
| Driving history | Full Service NSW online record for the past 6 months, listing offences and dates |
| Vehicle registration | Certificate showing the car is registered in NSW |
| Vehicle inspection | e-Safety (pink slip) report from an Authorised Inspection Station, or a Redbook rideshare report, within 12 months |
| Vehicle insurance | Third-party property damage or comprehensive cover on top of the green slip, naming you |
For the police check, DiDi links to National Crime Check, which gives DiDi drivers a 22% discount. A brand-new car registered within the last 12 months needs no inspection report in its first year.
Vehicle rules by DiDi service in NSW
The car must be in great condition with no damage or decals, have at least 4 doors, seat 4 to 6 passengers, not be an ex-taxi, and stay registered in NSW with NSW CTP. The age limit differs between DiDi's listings:
| Listing | Maximum car age |
|---|---|
| NSW city pages (Sydney and regional) | 15 years |
| DiDi Express (NSW) | 15 years |
| DiDi Max (NSW) | 15 years |
| DiDi Delivery (NSW) | 10 years |
If you plan to take Delivery jobs, a car of 10 years or newer avoids any doubt. Inspections and insurance classes for every state are compared on vehicle requirements.
NSW cities and what changes between them
DiDi lists seven NSW cities: Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Central Coast, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie and Wagga Wagga. Each has Express, Max and Delivery. Their driver pages carry the same requirements and documents word for word, so there is no separate regional checklist. Once approved you may drive in any NSW city on the list, but not in another state.
Airports are the one place where rules shift. DiDi's NSW pages set no airport-specific document, but airport requests only reach you after you accept that airport's terms in the DiDi Driver app (Settings, Legal), and pickups must be in the rideshare area. Queue and short-trip priority rules are on airport rides.
Signage in NSW
After approval DiDi posts two DiDi stickers. In NSW they go on or near the rear window on the driver's side, visible from outside. Fines for missing signs fall on the driver.
