DiDi driver requirements in Victoria
Victoria needs only 6 months on a full licence, plus CPVV Driver Accreditation and a car registered as a Commercial Passenger Vehicle that passes a yearly inspection.
Who regulates DiDi drivers in Victoria
Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria (CPVV) issues both pieces of paperwork that matter: your Driver Accreditation and the Commercial Passenger Vehicle registration for the car. DiDi then checks the rest: licence tenure, ID, inspection and insurance. Unlike NSW, DiDi does not ask Victorian drivers to upload a separate police check or driving record.
DiDi's baseline still applies everywhere: smartphone, mobile number and email, the right to work in Australia, an ABN registered for GST (driver tax) and being listed as an insured driver. A side-by-side of all states is on driver requirements.
Documents DiDi asks for in Victoria
| Document | Details |
|---|---|
| Profile photo | JPG, JPEG or PNG, 200 x 200 pixels or larger, used so riders can identify you |
| Driver licence | Full licence held in Victoria for at least 6 months |
| Driver Accreditation (DA) | Current certificate from CPVV |
| Proof of ID | Passport, ImmiCard, Australian or NZ birth certificate, or citizenship certificate |
| CPV registration | Car registered as a Commercial Passenger Vehicle |
| Vehicle inspection | Full Redbook Pty Ltd report issued within 12 months; RWC accepted |
| Insurance declaration | Third-party property damage or comprehensive cover with you as an insured driver |
New cars are exempt from the inspection for their first 12 months. Note that DiDi's state summary says "Australian" licence for 6 months, while the document list specifies a full licence held in Victoria; plan on the stricter reading.
Vehicle rules by DiDi service in Victoria
Every car needs at least 4 doors and seats for 4 to 6 passengers, and must be free of damage and decals. Victoria's listings are the only ones that do not mention an ex-taxi ban. Age limits:
| Listing | Maximum car age |
|---|---|
| Victorian city pages | 15 years |
| DiDi Max (VIC) | 15 years |
| DiDi Express (VIC) | 10 years |
| DiDi Delivery (VIC) | 10 years |
Because Express is DiDi's everyday ride, a car older than 10 years may limit what you can accept. Confirm in the app before you buy. Full comparison: vehicle requirements.
Victorian cities
DiDi runs Express, Max and Delivery in Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Shepparton. The five driver pages repeat the same requirements, so a Ballarat or Shepparton driver uploads exactly what a Melbourne driver does. Registration lets you drive in any of these cities but not across the border.
DiDi sets no Victorian airport document. Airport requests, including at Melbourne Airport, need the airport's terms accepted in the app (Settings, Legal), and you must stay in the rideshare holding area to keep your queue position. More on airport rides.
Signs in Victoria
Display at least one DiDi sign or the CPVV sign where people approaching can see it and where it cannot be removed from the driver's seat (DiDi suggests the rear windscreen). DiDi's help centre also tells Victorian drivers to take DiDi signage off whenever they are not logged in to the DiDi app.
How to sign up in Victoria
- Get your CPVV Driver Accreditation and CPV registration first, since both are uploads.
- Book a Redbook inspection unless the car is under 12 months old.
- Install DiDi Driver, register with phone and email, and add your ABN.
- Upload the documents for VIC and allow up to 3 business days for review (DiDi's help centre allows 3 to 5).
Rejections arrive by SMS with a reason. See driver sign-up and, for problems, driver support.
