DiDi driver requirements in Canberra (ACT)

DiDi's Canberra driver page repeats the NSW checklist. Only the sticker position and Access Canberra inspections are ACT-specific, so confirm the rest in the app.

Why the Canberra page looks like NSW

DiDi files Canberra under its own heading, ACT, in its list of cities. Yet the Canberra driver page is headed "DiDi Driver NSW" and repeats the Sydney page in full: an NSW licence, a T condition, a Service NSW driving record, NSW registration and NSW CTP. DiDi publishes no separate ACT requirement list.

This guide reports what DiDi shows rather than guessing at ACT law. Passenger transport in Canberra is regulated by the ACT Government, so treat the NSW items as DiDi's current published checklist and confirm the documents the DiDi Driver app asks for when you select Canberra.

What DiDi's Canberra page lists

For you: a smartphone, mobile number and email; the right to work in Australia; an unrestricted Australian licence held at least 12 months; an ABN registered for GST (driver tax); no serious criminal or traffic offences; and being named as an insured driver.

ACT-specific items DiDi does publish

  • Sticker position: passenger's side, on or near the lower windscreen or on a fixed window. NSW drivers use the rear window, driver's side instead.
  • Inspections: DiDi's car inspection guidance links ACT drivers to Access Canberra's motor vehicle inspections page.
  • Anti-discrimination law: DiDi's policy names the ACT Discrimination Act 1991 as the territory law that applies.
  • City list: DiDi's help centre lists Canberra as the only ACT city.

Vehicle rules by service

The Canberra page sets the NSW-style car rules: up to 15 years old, at least 4 doors, 4 to 6 passengers, not an ex-taxi, free of damage and decals. DiDi's service listings have no ACT column. For comparison, the NSW listings allow 15 years for Express and Max and 10 years for Delivery, so a car of 10 years or newer is the cautious choice. All states: vehicle requirements.

Driving across the border

DiDi lets drivers use any city in the state where they registered, and not others. Its help centre does not say whether Canberra counts with NSW for this, so ask support before planning trips into NSW towns. Canberra Airport has no special document on DiDi's page; the general airport terms in Settings, Legal apply (airport rides).
